Tennis Ireland Welcomes Letty Lucas as New President

Tennis Ireland is delighted to announce the appointment of Letty Lucas as its new President. Letty, nominated by Ulster Branch of Tennis Ireland (UBTI), officially took over the presidential chain of office from John Ryan of Leinster in February 2024.

Letty Lucas brings a wealth of experience in both playing and administering the game, having served on the Board of Tennis Ireland from 2006 to 2009, as President from 2009 to 2011, and returning as a Board member in 2019.

During her time on the Board, she has served on the ARC committee, held the position of Chair of Competitions, and was Chair of the Masters’ Committee. Letty has also served as President of the UBTI and has been involved in club development, ensuring increased participation, improved governance, and financial sustainability.

Letty’s involvement in tennis spans over 40 years during which she has represented her club, county, province, and country at various levels. She has represented Ireland’s Masters’ Team at international level for 20+ ITF World cups. In addition to her impressive playing career, Letty has served on multiple club committees, and currently also holds the role of President at her home club, Downshire Tennis Club.

As the new President of Tennis Ireland, Letty aims to continue the growth and development of the tennis across the country. Her experience, dedication, and passion for tennis make her an ideal ambassador and leader for the organisation. She notes: ”It’s a great honour and privilege to serve as President of Tennis Ireland. I’m looking forward to meeting and working with our local and international tennis community over the coming months and with your support, working to achieve our shared ambitions to grow our wonderful sport at all levels.”

Tennis Ireland would like to express its gratitude to outgoing President John Ryan for his invaluable contributions during his two-year term, a period that was marked with many high-points including, the recruitment of a new CEO, the adoption of a new Constitution, the establishment of a new Board structure and Inter-Branch Forum and the opening of Tennis Ireland’s new offices at the Sport Ireland Campus. Receiving the ITF Advantage All Gold Award at the ITF AGM in Glasgow 2022, on behalf of Tennis Ireland for their programme on gender balance and diversity, was also another stand out moment.

Please join us in welcoming Letty Lucas as the new President of Tennis Ireland and in wishing her the best of luck in her new role.
