New Free Online Course: Court Supervising & Off-Court Umpiring
Are you passionate about tennis and eager to support tournaments behind the scenes? Do you already lend a hand with supervising matches — or want to get involved? We’re thrilled to announce the launch of our free online Off-Court Umpiring / Court Supervising Course, specially designed to equip you with the knowledge, confidence, and credentials to step into an officiating role.
What You’ll Learn
The course is structured into six modules covering the essential aspects of off-court officiating:
- Role of an Off-Court Umpire
- Skills and Qualities of an Umpire
- Key Rules & Procedures
- Code of Conduct & Violations
- Line Call Disputes
- Score Disputes
Each module introduces realistic scenarios you may face during tournaments, helping you build practical judgement as well as theoretical knowledge.
How It Works & What You Get
- Complete the modules at your own pace
- On finishing, a certificate is automatically generated
- Upload your certificate to your Tennis Ireland profile
- Use it to validate your training as you step into officiating roles
Why This Course Matters
This course is required for anyone wishing to referee at T200 level or below. For higher-level tournaments (T500 and above), you must supplement this with the in-person Provincial Referee Course and pass the associated exam.
By building a baseline of education for all officiating volunteers, we ensure consistency, fairness, and confidence across tournaments — just like other leading tennis federations do.
