FAQs
There are three main areas currently under the Diversity & Inclusion remit, shaped by funding and resource capacity:
- Women in Tennis
- Enjoy Tennis
- Transgender and Non-binary Inclusion Policy (in development)
We are always looking to expand into other areas and are happy to discuss potential initiatives with affiliated members, and to offer advice, guidance and resources where we can.
Women in Tennis is funded by Sport Ireland's Women in Sport Unit.
Enjoy Tennis is primarily funded by Sport Ireland's Dormant Accounts Fund, with additional support from the HSE National Lottery Scheme, the ITF Wheelchair Development Programme, and national stakeholder donations. A club funding scheme was available through Sport for All and the Local Sport Disability Fund for the past three years. There is no current club funding scheme for 2025 or 2026.
The Transgender and Non-binary Inclusion Policy development is funded by Sport Ireland's Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Fund.
- Any affiliated club can access funding to support programmes across the island of Ireland.
- Licensed tennis coaches can also apply for funding to run programmes on community courts.
- Where funding is limited, we ensure fair distribution across members and clubs, and continue to offer support and resources where funding is unavailable.
Please contact your Regional Development Officer for details on accessing and claiming funding.
We are currently developing a Transgender and Non-binary Inclusion Policy, as mandated by Sport Ireland. As advised by Sport Ireland, this process is expected to take up to 18 months to ensure proper and fair consultation with all relevant stakeholders. It is expected to be completed by September 2026.
In the meantime, the ITF Gender Eligibility Policy (2025) applies to all ITF competitions.
