2023 European Youth Olympic Festival – Nomination Policy

Tennis Ireland is once again delighted to provide an opportunity for players to represent Ireland at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Slovenia from 23rd – 29th July 2023.

In 2022 one boy and one girl were nominated to represent Ireland after winning the qualifying and finals weekends. Both Eoghan Jennings and Rachel Deegan were then selected by the Olympic Federation of Ireland as part of the overall Team Ireland to compete in singles and mixed doubles, going head-to-head against some of the top players in the world, led by Coach Lynsey McCullough.

This year Tennis Ireland and the Olympic Federation of Ireland are sending two boys and two girls for tennis, providing more opportunities for young Irish players to compete in one of the biggest events on the junior calendar.

Tennis Ireland in cooperation with the Olympic Federation of Ireland has developed a nomination policy for 2023, consisting of one qualifying weekend on 6th and 7th May followed by the finals weekend on 13th and 14th May. The top two boys and top two girls from the finals will be nominated by Tennis Ireland to the OFI for selection.

In order to compete in the event players must meet the eligibility criteria in the policy including:

  • Having an Irish passport
  • Born in 2008 or 2009
  • Available for all dates of the qualifying weekend, finals weekend and the European Youth Olympic Festival.

A full list of the eligibility criteria can be found in the policy below.
