About Tennis Ireland

Who We Are

Tennis Ireland is the National Governing Body for the sport of tennis in Ireland. Tennis Ireland was founded in 1908 and has over 180 affiliated clubs and engages with almost 80,000 players. Tennis Ireland stages Pro Tour events such as The Irish Open Championships, and selects teams to participate in The Billie Jean King Cup, The Davis Cup and other international events at Junior, Senior and Master’s level. Tennis Ireland also supports the delivery of a wide range of competitive, educational and development programmes at local, provincial and national levels. Tennis Ireland is a Company limited by guarantee and without share capital. It functions as the National Governing Body for the sport for the whole of Ireland. The Company has a total of ten Directors who work closely with the Chief Executive.

Tennis Ireland has four broad areas of responsibilities as follows:

  1. Administering and regulating the game at all levels.
  2. Organising competition at various levels, from Wheelchair Tennis through to the Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup the latter being the biggest annual international team events in sport.
  3. Developing the sport through the provision of technical, coaching and financial support for a variety of National and Provincial Programmes which impact at both the elite and recreational levels of the game. Tennis Ireland also has responsibility for coaches’ education.
  4. Promoting the game in the widest possible sense and specifically to the various key constituencies such as Government and media.
