FAQS
Diversity & Inclusion FAQs
- What does Diversity & Inclusion cover within Tennis Ireland?
- There are three main areas that currently fall under the purview of the Diversity and Inclusion Team which are dictated by funding and resource capacity – Women in Tennis, Enjoy Tennis, and Transgender and Non-binary Inclusion Policy (in development).
- We are always looking to expand into other areas and would be more than happy to discuss potential initiatives with affiliated members, and offer any advice, guidance and resources where we can.
- How is Diversity and Inclusion funded within Tennis Ireland?
- The Women in Tennis Programme is funded by Sport Ireland’s Women in Sport Unit.
- The Enjoy Tennis Programme is primarily funded by Sport Ireland’s Dormant Accounts Fund. We also rely on funding from the HSE National Lottery Scheme, ITF Wheelchair Development Programme and donations from our valued national stakeholders. For the past three years, every affiliated tennis club in Ireland was able to avail of a club funding scheme through Sport for All and Local Sport Disability Fund to support Enjoy Tennis programmes in clubs. There is no current club funding scheme for 2025 or 2026.
- The development of a Transgender and Non-binary Inclusion Policy is funded by Sport Ireland’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Fund.
- Who can access this funding?
- Any affiliated club can access this funding to support programmes across the island of Ireland.
- Licensed tennis coaches can also apply for funding to run programmes on community courts across the island of Ireland.
- For programmes where funding is limited, we ensure fair distribution across our members and clubs. In cases where funding cannot be offered, we offer ongoing support and resources to create, sustain and grow relevant programmes.
- Please contact your Regional Development Officer for details on accessing and claiming funding.
- Does Tennis Ireland have a Transgender and Non-binary Inclusion Policy?
- We are currently developing a Transgender and Non-binary Inclusion Policy, as mandated by Sport Ireland. This process is expected to take up to 18 months (as advised by Sport Ireland) as we want to ensure proper and fair consultation with relevant stakeholders. This process is expected to be completed by September 2026. Sport Ireland’s Transgender and Non-binary Inclusion Policy can be found
- The International Tennis Federation’s Gender Eligibility can be found here, and covers Davis Cup, Billie Jean King Cup, ITF World Tennis Tour (Men’s and Women’s), ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors and ITF Junior Team Competitions, ITF Wheelchair Tennis Tour and World Team Cup, ITF World Tennis Masters Tour and ITF World Tennis Masters Tour Championships, ITF Beach Tennis World Tour, ITF Beach Tennis Juniors Tour, ITF Beach Tennis World Cup and Sand Series, Olympic Tennis Event and Paralympic Wheelchair Tennis Event (together “ITF Competitions”).
