In this month’s edition, we are proud to present a snapshot of results from Irish tennis players competing on the International circuit, including the Irish Four Nations Team, Sam Barry, Eoin Collins, James McGee and the Irish Veteran players at the ITF World Team Championships.  Our sponsor, AIG offer up further competitive Insurance concessions for our Irish Tennis Players and we highlight Child Protection Compliancy, Coach Licensing and National Tennis Day to assist Irish Tennis Clubs in providing the best service for their members.  Enjoy!

 

Eoin Collins

Irish born Eoin Collins is the ITF Seniors Men’s 45 Champion.  he took the gold medal on Sunday, 4th May 2014, with a hard fought 36 65 62 final win over fellow unseeded opponent Frank Vermeer of the Netherlands. Collins represented Ireland in Davis Cup and at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona as a doubles competitor, losing in the second round.  he won one Challenger event and attained a career high ATP ranking of No. 461 in the 90s.  More details Here

 

James McGee – French Open 2014

What a great win for James yesterday on Court 2 in Roland Garros.  Round up the troops and get behind James’s quest to qualify for the Grand Slam in France. 

After securing the first set against opponent Norbert Gombos from Slovakia 6-2, Norbert took the second in similar style 6-2.  As tennis fans watched the scoring with bated breath, James closed out the third set 6-4 to go through to the second round of qualifiers. 

James commented after the match “Got my first ever win at a Grand Slam today! Pretty pumped after a difficult match in tricky conditions. Thanks for all the messages! 2nd Round of qualifying is Thursday at ROLAND-GARROS

Sam Barry’s win in Israel

Congratulations to Sam Barry on winning the Israel F5 Futures at the beginning of the month.  Sam earned his place in the final after winning each round up to it, in straight sets.  In the final Adrien Bossel from Switzerland took the first set 6-4, with Sam winning the next two sets, 6-1, 6-2 and securing the singles title.  Sam’s current ATP singles ranking is 379.

This week Sam is competing in the scorching heat in the Tunisian F2 Futures.  Seeded second, Sam will today take on Qualifier Martin Beran from Canada.  To follow Sam’s progress visit here.

ITF World Team Championships


The ITF Seniors and Super-Seniors World Team Championships are the premier team events on the ITF Seniors Circuit.

Coach Licensing


ls your Coach Licensed?

Tennis Coaches Licensing Schemes are in place in many countries and are seen as ‘best practice’ in tennis coaching.In 2012, the International Tennis Federation recognised that Tennis Ireland have established a Coaches Education system that meets the quality standards set by the World Governing Body and part of the criteria was that we Licensed Coaches: For more information on the Programme click HERE.

Four Nations Championships 2014

Ireland finished joint third, alongside Wales in the Four Nations Championships 2014 which took place at the beginning of May.

Thank you to the Irish team that competed in the event, hosted in Glasgow, Scotland.

National Tennis Day, Saturday 5th July


It’s time to get down to business and plan the upcoming National Tennis Day.  Fail to prepare, prepare to fail. The days are getting longer and the good weather is on it’s way.  No better opportunity to open your Club’s doors to allow newcomers to come along and test-drive this magnificent sport and recruit new members.


With over 50 clubs hosting Open days in 2013, this year numbers are climbing. 

 

In next month’s Ezine we would like to feature a club that has hosted an Open day so please get in touch, send in your photographs for our website and send us a blog on how your Club’s open day went.


Already the following clubs have hosted Open days:

Wiicklow, Athy, Omagh, Coleraine, Sutton, Charleville, Rushbrooke, Portadown, City of Derry, Claremorris.
