Welcome to this month’s eZine

February 2015

In this month’s edition,we look back on the highs and lows of group II for the Fed Cup team in Tallin. Davis Cup fever is upon us as Castleknock TC prepare to open their gates to the Irish tennis public once more and we check up on our recent Irish junior’s exploits oversees.Aig our partner in business has more great offers for our members.

Conor Niland, Captain of the AIG Irish Davis Cup team names his team

23 year old Sam Barry will lead the Irish team with Daniel Glancy as number two. They are joined by doubles specialists James Cluskey & David O’Hare for the tie which takes place at Castleknock Lawn Tennis Club from the 6th – 8th March 2015.Peter Bothwell is selected as the 5th player to join the squad.

Conor Niland said “We have a good side with plenty of experience and a team that is really looking forward to this home tie.

We are hoping to see the Irish tennis fans getting behind the players in what promises to be an exciting weekend in Castleknock Lawn Tennis Club.”

Tickets for a child under 14 are €5 and an adult ticket is €15 Friday and Sunday and €12 for the doubles on Saturday. They are available at www.tennisireland.ie For group sales call 01 8844010

Irish Fed Cup captain Yvonne Doyle led her team of Amy Bowtell, Lauren Deegan, Julie Byrne and Rachael Dillon in the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Group ll. They drew a group which included Finland, Luxembourg and Slovenia. The Irish girls came very close to challenging for promotion in their final group match against Slovenia where Bowtell sensationally defeated Polona Hercog who holds a current  ATP ranking of 76 and Deegan brought her opponent to three sets, they were unlucky to find themselves in a playoff with Bosnia Herzegovina fighting to retain their place in group II. Even more unfortunate when an old injury flared up causing Bowtell to battle her way through a three set defeat. The team needed to win the remaining singles and doubles matches to avoid relegation which proved to be too much on this occasion. A disappointing outcome for a very brave and promising performance from this young team. Full story
