ITF recognition of Tennis Ireland Coach qualifications

ITF RECOGNITION OF TENNIS IRELAND COACH QUALIFICATIONS

For the most part of 2012, Roger Geraghty & Peter Farrell worked intensely at their efforts to achieve ITF recognition for Irish coaches, and just before end of December 2012 this was achieved.

In 2011 the World Governing Body of tennis, the International Tennis Federation, developed for the first time a programme to officially recognize and approve the Coach Education systems of member nations.

In part, the statement from the ITF reads:

“The ITF recognizes…that Tennis Ireland have established a Coaches Education system that meets the quality standards set by the ITF. As a result, the ITF agrees to formally recognize the Coaches Education system of Tennis Ireland for a four-year period from 1 January 2013 until 31 December 2016”.

ITF membership comprises over 200 nations, and Ireland becomes only the 12th nation to achieve this recognition in Coach Education, and the first of the “smaller” countries to do so.

ITF recognition further distinguishes a Tennis Ireland coach in the marketplace as ‘the coach of choice’ to prospective employers.
