Team Ireland, consisting of Julia Moriarty, Amy Bowtell, Lynsey McCullough and Sinead Lohan are currently competing in the Europe/Africa Zone Group III at the women’s premier team competition, which runs from 2 – 7 May at the Smash Tennis Academy in Cairo.
Travelling with the team is non-playing captain, Pat Crowe. This is Pat Crowe’s first year working as Ireland’s Fed Cup captain. Pat is a Level 3 coach and has held the position of Tennis Ireland Director at Carrickmines Croquet and Lawn Tennis Club since 1993.
The Fed Cup consists of a round-robin style tournament, with two pools of five teams. Other nations making up the Europe/Africa Zone Group III are: Algeria, Egypt, Lithuania, Malta, Moldova, Montenegro, Norway, South Africa and Tunisia.
The winners of each pool will play against the number two teams in the other group to determine which two nations will advance to the Europe Africa Zone Group II in 2012. All of the remaining nations’ play will determine the final positions within the group.
