Masters (30+) Tournaments

Masters (30+) Tournaments

Masters Competitions

A player is considered a Master (Veteran) when he/she reaches the age of 30 not later than the 31st of December in the year the tournament is held (i.e. in 2023 players must be born in 1993 or earlier).

Each age group includes players within a 5-year period grouped as follows:

30+, 35+, 40+, 45+, 50+, 55+, 65+, 70+, 75+, 80+, 85+

Players must attain the specified age not later than the 31st December of the year the competition takes place.

There are many Open events for Masters. Most as Masters Open Tournaments where all events are designed for specific age groups and a few extra within National Tour Open Tournaments – i.e. a Men’s Singles 35+ (MS 35+) event alongside Men’s Singles level 1, 2, etc. (MS1, MS2, etc.) events.

If they are no events for a given age group, players can play down but not up. Example: if a player is 64 and there is no 60+ event, that player can play in a 55+ event but cannot play in a 65+ event.

Masters Tournament Categories:

Tournaments are grouped into various Categories, awarded in relation to previous history, venue facilities and experience of the organizing committee. The name of the Category is reflected in the ranking points allocated to the winner of the event (i.e., the winner of a Tour 1000 event will receive 1000 ranking points).

The 2023 calendar includes:

  • Two ITF Masters events:
    • 30+ to 50+ Irish Masters National Closed in Rushbrooke 18 to 20 August
    • 55+ to 80+ Irish Masters National Closed in Sunday’s Well 1 to 3 September

Representing Ireland

Tennis Ireland fields teams in all the age groups in the:

There is significant competition for places on Irish International Masters Teams and a system is in place for selection. While looking at selecting the most competitive teams, the selection criteria has been designed to support the domestic Irish Masters Tennis Circuit, and in particular the National Masters events.
