Selection criteria for all players (Seniors, Juniors & Veterans) representing Ireland at international level and their Provinces at Interprovincial level.
- Confirmed availability for selection; (“availability”).
- Where applicable (i.e. in a match, tournament or competition that will involve singles play), objective merit as a singles player, based on international (ATP, WTA, ITF, ETA), national and provincial rankings, tournament and other competitive results; (“singles ability”).
- Where applicable (i.e. in a match, tournament or competition that will involve doubles play) objective merit as a doubles player, based on international (ATP, WTA, ITF, ETA), national and provincial rankings, tournament and other competitive results; (“doubles ability”).
- Where applicable, the deemed benefit of an established or complimentary doubles partnership, based on international (ATP, WTA, ITF, ETA), national and provincial rankings, tournament and other competitive results; (“doubles partnership”).
- Court surface (where, for instance, a player is more or less suited to a slower or faster surface as applicable); (“the surface specialist factor”).
- Developmental benefit of experience of selection for a promising player with obvious future representative potential; (“the future potential factor”).
- Ambitions of player in the game, whether committed currently or in the future to full-time or intensive play; (“the commitment factor”).
- Historic record of achievement and success at the level in question such as is likely to benefit a team; (“the experience factor”).
- Historic and current desire and commitment to represent at national and provincial level; (“the desire to represent factor”).
- Contribution to, and support of, the domestic game; (“the loyal servant factor”).
- The principles of sharing opportunities for selection (where a number of players of broadly similar ability in an age-group are vying for selection, it may be appropriate to spread opportunity widely over a period of time, rather than concentrate it in one or two players); (“sharing of opportunities”).
- Sportsmanship, conduct and disciplinary record (“the good ambassador factor”).
