Tennis Ireland and Rafa Nadal Academy formally launch new collaboration

On the 1st and 2nd of June, coaches from the Rafa Nadal Academy visited the National Tennis Centre on the DCU Campus to work with a group of Ireland’s most promising boys and girls from all four provinces. This is the first step on a new pathway for young Irish tennis players to train at the Rafa Nadal Academy headquarters in Mallorca, Spain with the first Tennis Ireland group visit planned for October 2022. If successful, this pilot framework will become an annual cycle, providing ongoing opportunities for Irish players to experience personalised, high intensity training designed for aspiring tennis professionals.

Rafa Nadal has created a unique, values-based training system that combines education and tennis to ensure that young players have a healthy and balanced approach to the sport without sacrificing their academic studies. Over the coming years we hope to see a strong contingent of Irish players attending the annual and semester programs at the Rafa Nadal Academy alongside the current 150 international students from over 40 countries.

This is a significant project for Edel Clarke, an RNA Agent based in Dublin, who has crafted this unique opportunity for Tennis Ireland despite delays due to Covid 19.

Brían Sparks, Commercial and Partnerships Manager at Tennis Ireland said:

“The Rafa Nadal Academy Brand is synonymous with professionalism, dedication and fair play and is a perfect fit for Tennis Ireland from multiple perspectives. The initial focus of our collaboration is opening a new pathway for our aspiring tennis professionals and there are further exciting opportunities to explore such as recreational visits for Tennis Ireland affiliated club members and introductions to the world of Padel which has become a cornerstone of the Rafa Nadal Academy experience.”

Head of Performance Development at Tennis Ireland, Garrett Barry, stated:

“The level of technical support, quality of the facilities and the learning opportunity at the Rafa Nadal Academy will provide our aspiring juniors a taste of what it takes to become a player at the highest level. We hope that this collaboration can become a permanent fixture in our annual calendar, integrated seamlessly with our performance development strategy.”

As part of the launch of the collaboration, the Rafa Nada Academy is offering a 10% promotional discount to Irish visitors to the Academy with details available on the back page of the E-zine.
