Sport Ireland Funding Announcement

Tennis Ireland welcomed yesterday the announcement by Sport Ireland of €450k in 2020 Core funding and €200k in High Performance funding to support the work of Tennis Ireland.

These allocations were in addition to previous recent announcements of €40k to support the Enjoy Tennis Programme and €150k over two years to support the delivery of a programme to encourage Women’s participation in Tennis.  A further €25k was also allocated to Tennis Ireland to support the employment of a University Graduate within the Tennis Ireland Competitions Department in 2020 via Sport Ireland’s 2020 ASPIRE Graduate scheme.

The allocations announced were part of an overall announcement of €36 million in funding for national governing bodies, high performance sport and local sports partnerships.  This is a significant commitment by the Government to ensuring the continued work of National Governing Bodies, Local Sports Partnerships and NGB High-Performance Departments.

The funding sees a €25k increase for core operations within Tennis Ireland compared to 2019 but is a €97k increase on the 2018 figure.  This is in addition to almost €2.5m in capital funding which has been provided to Tennis projects throughout Ireland in the last 12 months.

Speaking after the announcement, Tennis Ireland Chief Executive, Richard Fahey said, “Tennis Ireland is pleased that its work and the work of its Branches and Clubs continues to be recognised by Government through the funding provided by the Department of Sport and Sport Ireland.  We have dedicated time to advocating on behalf of our members and highlighting the many benefits that Tennis brings to Irish society – from health to economic and social inclusion.  The recent announcements are a further positive step for all those involved and committed to Tennis and we look forward to continuing to serve our communities through the delivery of our extensive programme of action for 2020.  I would like to thank Kieran Mulvey and John Treacy of Sport Ireland and Minister’s Ross and Griffin for their continued support”.
