FORMER PRESIDENT TENNIS IRELAND ANNE TAYLOR PASSES AWAY

Anne Taylor Obituary

Anne Taylor, a former Ulster Branch and Tennis Ireland President, and member of Queens University Staff LTC passed away on Tuesday 19th February 2019.

Anne joined the UBTI in the 1980’s as a Member of Queens University Staff LTC and became Hon Secretary in 1984 and then President in 1987/89. She was appointed to the role of President of the Irish Lawn Tennis Association in 1991 before returning to Ulster where she resumed the role of Hon Secretary until 1995.

Above Anne (left) is pictured presenting flowers and a medal to the late Mavis Hogg (right) alongside former tennis Ireland president Letty Lucas (centre) at the Davis Cup Dinner in Dublin in 2010.

During her time on the UBTI her main interest was in promotion of Junior Tennis and many now Senior players could tell of their memories.

Anne had a huge knowledge of the life and works of James Joyce and conducted many tours around Dublin for the public and unfortunately died on one of these visits on Tuesday 19th February 2019. Anne was also greatly interested in skiing and indeed was still doing so up until 2017. Anne very seldom missed any home Davis Cup tie and would bring along her home-made fudge for the staff.

Anne will be sadly missed by all at Ulster Branch and Tennis Ireland and the Tennis Community in Ulster & Ireland.

Everyone is welcome to a Service of Remembrance on Friday 8th March at 1pm in Drumbeg Parish Church.
