02 Jan Shared Access Junior Indoors Final
The Shared Access National Junior Indoors is now complete. The tournament held in West Wood Leopardstown finished Sunday the 30th with 8 high quality finals. Tennis Ireland would like to extend a massive thank you to Shared Access who in their second year as title sponsor are the ones who make it possible for us to run tournaments of this scale.
Day 4 Shared Access National Junior Indoors.
All the matches were played in a great spirit, and the competitors produced some stunning play, entertaining the large number of spectators that had come to watch. There were a number of standout matches on the day, with the Boys and Girls U12 finals being particularly closely fought. Starting at 11.30 James McGloughlin and Ethan Simunyu battled for over three hours. James prevailed in in three sets, but down to the last point of the last game both players displayed incredible court coverage and ball striking.
In the Girls U16s event the No. 1 Seed Kate Gardiner took on the No. 2 Breda Brennan. Kate ran away with the first set 6-0, yet with great determination Breda fought back in the second, both girls showed their class pushing each other game by game into a second set tie-break which Kate eventually cliched 9-7 to take the title.
Conor Gannon in the Boys U18 event deserves a mentioned. Having come through the qualifying before Christmas Conor set about carving his way through the main-draw. He knocked out three of the top four seeds and won the tournament by beating Mark Griffin in a final that demonstrated both boys shot-making ability, all without dropping a set.
Tennis Ireland would like to congratulate the players that took part in finals. Reaching the final of a national event is a great achievement. We would like to thank Tournament Referee Maria Kilkelly, our hosts West Wood Leopardstown and the wonderful Court Supervisors. A further thank you must go to the parents and coaches who travelled with and supported their players throughout the tournament. Finally, we must thank all the players who played such wonderful tennis throughout the week and represented themselves so well both on and off the court. Full results can be found HERE.
