First Official Referee Course

First Official Referee Course

The first of several referee courses aimed at providing tournament officials with the skills to run tournaments to a national standard took place at DCU this weekend. Twenty one club officials from clubs nationwide attended this inaugural course.

The course was designed in conjunction with the Irish Tennis Umpires Association (ITUA) in response to a demand from clubs for support in the area of tournament officiating. The aim of the course is to provide candidates with the knowledge and expertise that will promote fair play and effective refereeing, a role that primarily rests with club volunteers.

The course was presented by Fergus Murphy Ireland’s Gold Badge Chair Umpire and full-time ATP Tour Umpire and Maria Kilkelly ITF White Badge Referee.

Tennis Ireland is committed to assisting clubs in running events in a fair manner, providing the best playing conditions and ensuring that the rules are applied in a fair and consistent manner. This is based on a sound knowledge of the rules and applying them in a consistent way.

Further courses are being planned around the country later this year. If you are interested in attending a course in the future watch our site for details or send your details to us through this link Here
