18 Apr Fed Cup team arrive home
The Irish Fed Cup team captain Yvonne Doyle returns home from Montenegro today with her young debutant team of Georgia Drummy, Jennifer Timotin and Anna Bowtell.
With Amy Bowtell ruled out with a long term injury and Jenny Claffey unavailable at the last minute due to illness promotion to Group II was always going to be a big challenge for this very young team.
Ireland got a reasonable draw with Armenia, Macedonia and Iceland in our pool.
Round 1 Irl defeated Iceland 3-0
Round 2 Irl lost to Macedonia in a tight 3- setter doubles 1-2 Doubles score was 5-7 6-4 6-3
Round 3 Irl defeated Armenia 2-1 taking the deciding doubles in a hard fought 4-6 6-0 6-4
Finishing 2nd in the pool Irl played Montenegro in a 5-8 playoff and lost 0-2
All three girls played and competed well and will no doubt benefit from the exposure to International Senior Team tennis at this point in their junior careers.
