29 Sep ITF Superseniors World Team Championships
The ITF Super-Seniors World Individual Championships took place in Umag, Croatia on 27 September – 4 October.
The ITF Young Seniors, Seniors and Super-Seniors World Team and Individual Championships are the premier events on the ITF Seniors Circuit.
Players aged from 35-and-over to 45-and-over compete in the Young Seniors Championships, from 50-and-over to 60-and-over in the Seniors Championships, and from 65-and-over to 85-and-over compete in the Super-Seniors Championships.
Starting with one team trophy in 1958, and four individual events in 1981, the competitions have grown to offer a total of 72 World Championship titles each year to teams, and in singles, doubles and mixed doubles.
Three teams travelled to represent Ireland in Croatia the Mens 65+ and 70s + and the Ladies 65+
Ladies 65 team beat Poland 2-1 but lost to Sweden and Japan 2-1 and to silver medal winners GB 3-0. The Irish ladies finished the competition in 12th place which is in keeping their world ranking.
Mens 70 team lost to GB 3-0,lost to Canada 1-2, beat Switzerland 2-1,in their group stage. They lost to Poland 1-2 and Slovenia 3-0 in the playoff stages.
Mens 65 team lost to both Norway and France 3-0 in their group phase. IN the playoff stage thy lost to Russia 3-0 and finished up with a win over Ukraine 2-0
