James McGee V Aleksandr Nedovyesov

McGee bows out after a valiant effort at Flushing Meadows today.

Getting off to an ideal start breaking his opponents serve in the first game he served out the set from there to take the set 6-4.

Nedovyesov however raised his game after this and took command of the next two sets moving McGee with some well placed groundstrokes and timely net play

McGee dug deep to regain control at the start of the 4th set. At 2-1  up and 0-30 on the Nedovyesov serve it looked like the game was beginning to sway in McGee’s favour but Nedovyesov had other ideas and clawed back to hold. Just when McGee looked like he had nothing left his true fighting form came through. He broke back to even the set once more at 5-5 and followed up by holding to love. Suddenly  Nedovyesov  looked vulnerable. However it was not to be and Nedovyesov proved the more consistent server overall.  And so the dream for McGee comes to a close for now. The final score 4-6,6-2,6-1,7-6(3)

An incredible performance from James McGee this week and an achievement which will no doubt spur him on to more slam appearances before too long.
