26 Jul Joshua Milton is FBD Mens Irish Open 2014 Champion
In what turned out to be a very entertaining final at Fitzwilliam LTC on Saturday Johsua Milton, the Welsh No 1, came back from a set down to beat Edward Corrie(GBR) 4-6,7-5,6-2
A few drops of rain just before the scheduled start time didn’t impact the turnout for this match with a full stand of spectators being treated up to a great game of tennis.
Corrie dominated the first set and it was looking like he was going to have it all his way until midway in to the second when Milton started to get into his stride. He was simply unstoppable in the final set and a worthy winner of this popular event at Fitzwilliam LTC.
Congrats to Frederik Nielson(DEN) and Edward Corrie(GBR) who defeated Ireland’s Peter Bothwell and David O’Hare yesterday in The FBD Mens Irish Open Doubles Final
Nielson who is a Wimbledon doubles champion from 2012 and held an ATP doubles ranking of 17 in 2013 together with his in form partner Edward Corrie proved to have all the answers for the Irish pair of Bothwell/O’Hare.
Having lost the first set 6-2, the Irish duo managed to exert some pressure in the second set but eventually lost in straight sets 6-2, 7-5
