BNP Paribas Fed Cup Team Announced
The 2012 BNP Paribas Irish Fed Cup team has been announced consisting of Amy Bowtell, Sinead Lohan, Jenny Claffey and Lynsey McCullough.
The team will soon travel to Giza in Egypt to compete in the Europe/Africa Zone Group III at the women’s premier team competition, which runs from 16 – 21 April.
Travelling with the team is non-playing captain, Pat Crowe. This is Pat Crowe’s second year working as Ireland’s Fed Cup captain. Pat is a Level 3 coach and has held the position of Tennis Ireland Director at Carrickmines Croquet and Lawn Tennis Club since 1993. Pat will be assisted by Karen Nugent, a former Fed Cup player and also a Level 3 coach.
The Fed Cup consists of a round-robin style tournament, with two pools of six teams. Other nations making up the Europe/Africa Zone Group III are: Algeria, Armenia, Cyprus, Egypt, Kenya, Lithuania, Malta, Moldova, Morocco, Namibia, Tunisia
The winners of each pool will play against the number two teams in the other group to determine which two nations will advance to the Europe Africa Zone Group II in 2013. All of the remaining nations’ play will determine the final positions within the group.
