Tough draw for Niland and Sorensen at US Open
Niland and Sorensen both have a tough challenge ahead of them in the mens singles this week at the US Open with Conor Niland facing world no. 1 Novak Djokovic (SRB) and Louk Sorensen playing no. 6 seed Robin Soderling (SWE) as his first round challenge. Both Irish players won’t be playing their respective matches until at least tomorrow (Tuesday).
Conor and Louk both earned a place in the main draw on Friday, achieving a feat that had never previously been attained by an Irish player.
Niland defeated Matwe Middelkoop(NED) 2-6 6-1 6-4 in the final round of the qualifiers to earn a place in the main draw while Louk overcame Austria’s Martin Fischer on a scoreline 7-6 6-1.
