King and McGee in quarterfinals of Mens Irish Open
Barry King and James McGee have qualified for the quarterfinals of the Green Property Mens Irish Open after second round wins yesterday at Fitzwilliam LTC.
Barry King defeated Ciaran Fitzgerald on a scoreline 6-2 6-1 while James McGee had a 6-0 7-6(5) win over Emilien Firmin (FRA) in the second round. Mark Bowtell faced Fabrice Martin of France but was overcome on a scoreline 6-2 6-4, no. 8 seeded Albano Olivetti (FRA) had a 7-5 7-5 win over James Cluskey and Sam Barry faced no. 1 seeded Charles-Antoine Brezac (FRA) in the final match of the day. It was a close match but the final result was not in Sam’s favour with the Frenchman winning on a scoreline 6-3 4-6 7-6(2).
In the doubles event, no. 2 seeded Cluskey / McGee defeated British duo Short / Willis on a scoreline 7-6(3) 6-1 to qualify for the semi finals. No. 3 seeded Glancy / Mecir (SVK) also earned a place in the semi finals after a 6-3 6-3 win over Carpenter / Glavin. King / Lennon faced no. 1 seeded French pair Maes / Martin but were unfortunate to suffer a 6-1 6-2 defeat.
