Six Irish players through to second round at Mens Irish Open
Six Irish players have qualified for the second round of the Green Property Mens Irish Open taking place at Fitzwilliam LTC.
Sam Barry defeated Stefan Borg (SWE) in the first round yesterday morning on a scoreline 6-2 6-4, followed by a 3-6 7-6(4) 7-6(0) win for James Cluskey over Simon Cauvard (FRA) while later on in the day Barry King defeated no. 6 seeded Ruan Roelofse (RSA) on a scoreline 6-2 4-6 6-3. Daniel Glancy faced no. 2 seeded 6-3 6-3 Miloslav Mecir (SVK) but was overcome on a scoreline 6-3 6-3. Ciaran Fitzgerald, Mark Bowtell and James McGee all had first round wins in the mens singles on Monday.
In the doubles event, King / Lennon defeated Hudson (GBR) / Snapes (GBR) 6-1 6-3 yesterday afternoon to earn a place in the quarterfinals. Bradley / Martin were overcome by no. 1 seeded Maes (FRA) / Martin (FRA) 6-2 6-3 and British duo Short / Willis defeated Barry / Fitzgerald on a scoreline 6-4 4-6 [10-6] in the first round.
