Fitzgerald and Bowtell earn first ATP points
Ciaran Fitzgerald and Mark Bowtell earned their first ATP points yesterday in the mens singles main draw at the Green Property Mens Irish Open taking place at Fitzwilliam LTC this week.
Mark Bowtell earned his point with a 6-4 5-7 6-3 win over Neal Skupski (GBR) yesterday morning while Ciaran Fitzgerald defeated Keelan Oakley (GBR) on a scoreline 1-6 6-4 6-2 yesterday evening to earn his first point.
Also advancing to the second round of the mens singles yesterday was no. 7 seeded James McGee with a 6-1 6-4 win over Stefan Sterland-Markovic (GBR).
In the doubles event, a number of Irish players have advanced to the quarterfinals.
No. 2 seeded Cluskey/McGee defeated French duo Cauvard / Rousset on a scoreline 6-1 6-1, no. 3 seeded Glancy / Mecir (SVK) had a 6-2 6-7(3) [13-11] win over Bettink (NZL) / Sterland-Markovic (GBR) and Carpenter / Glavin defeated fellow Irish players Bowtell / Morrissey 5-7 6-2 [10-8] to advance to the quarterfinals. Byrne / Molle were overcome by no. 4 seeded Look (AUS) / Roelofse (RSA) on a scoreline 6-1 6-3 in the first round.
