Conor Niland takes the title at Salzburg


Irish number 1, Conor Niland has won the final of the €42,500 ATP Salzburg Indoor Open after defeating the unseeded Polish player Jerzy Janowicz  on a 76(5) 67(2) 63 scoreline yesterday afternoon.

The victory improves his World Ranking to a career high position of 131 and he also picked up a prize money cheque for €6,150.


Niland, seeded eight in the event reached the final after the number 2 seed, Karol Beck (SVK) withdraw with a foot injury on Saturday morning. In the quarter finals on Friday afternoon, Niland defeated Ivan Navarro (ESP) 75 63.

 

Determined to break into the top 100, Niland now moves onto Japan for the Dunlop World Challenger event where he is seeded number two. In his last event of the year, he will face qualifier Yasutaka Uchiyama (JPN) in the first round of the event on Tuesday.
