Conor Niland qualifies for quarterfinals in Loughborough
Conor Niland defeated Joshua Milton (GBR) in the second round of the mens singles main draw yesterday on a scoreline 6-1 1-6 6-1 to qualify for the quarterfinals of the €42,500 AEGON GB Pro-Series Loughborough. Conor will play no. 1 seeded Bjorn Phau (GER) in the quarterfinals this afternoon.
Amy Bowtell faced Mara Nowak (GER) in the first round of the womens singles on Wednesday afternoon but was unfortunate to suffer a 6-1 6-1 defeat. Amy achieved a place in the main draw after a 6-4 6-7(4) 7-6(4) win over no. 4 seeded Jessica Ginier in the final round of the qualifiers.
Mens Singles Qualifiers
Last weekend, James McGee advanced to the second round after a 6-3 6-4 win in the first round over Jonathan Kinsella (GBR). McGee faced Sean Thornley (GBR) in the second round but was defeated on a scoreline 7-6(5) 4-6 7-6(4). Also competing at the tournament last weekend were James Cluskey, Colin O’Brien, Daniel Glancy and Sam Barry but they were unfortunate to suffer a first round defeat.
James McGee and Colin O’Brien teamed up for the doubles event. They were unfortunate to suffer a 6-4 7-5 defeat to Sadik Kadir (AUS) / Purav Raja (IND) in the first round earlier this week.
