Sam Barry and Ben McLachlan in second round of doubles at US Open Juniors
Sam Barry and Ben McLachlan of New Zealand have qualified for the second round of the boys doubles at the US Open Juniors after a 2-6 6-1 [10-5] win over no. 5 seeded Gomez (COL) / Uchiyama (JPN). Their next challenge is Brazilians Sell / Semenzato in the second round.
After Sam’s first round win in the singles event, he will play no. 5 seeded Damir Dzumhur (BIH) in the second round later today. Sam who currently has a ranking of 62 reached the quarterfinals of the boys singles at the European Championships in July.
John Morrissey was also competing at the US Open in the boys singles qualifiers but was unfortunate to suffer a 7-6(4) 7-6(7) defeat to Michael Zhu (USA) in the first round.
For the doubles event, Morrissey teamed up with Ben Wagland of Australia but they were unfortunate to suffer a 6-4 5-7 [10-1] defeat to Sell / Semenzato of Brazil in the first round.
