John Morrissey qualifies for quarterfinals of Youth Olympic Games
John Morrissey had advanced to the quarterfinals of the boys singles at the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) 2010 in Singapore after a 6-3 7-6(4) win over no. 4 seeded Duilio Beretta (PER) this morning in the second round. Beretta currently has a ranking of 5 in the world while Morrissey is currently ranked 60.
His next challenge is no. 6 seeded Yuki Bhambri (IND) in the quarterfinals. Bhambri was the 2009 winner of the boys singles at the Australian Open Junior Championships.
In the doubles event, Morrissey and Alessandro Colella (ITA) were unfortunate to suffer a 6-2 7-5 first round defeat to Slovakians Horansky / Kovalik yesterday afternoon.
John Morrissey was selected for the ITF/Grand Slam Junior Touring team this year and recently reached the second round of the Green Proprty Mens Irish Open at Fitzwilliam.
