Davis Cup 2010: Ireland vs Lithuania. Lithuania defeat Ireland 3-2

 

Ireland’s Davis Cup campaign came to an end this weekend as Lithuania emerged as winners of the tie on Saturday evening at Fitzwilliam LTC in Dublin.

 

James McGee started off well on Friday afternoon but was eventually overcome by Ricardas Berankis on a scoreline 7-6(2) 4-6 4-6 3-6. Conor Niland faced Laurynas Grigelis in the second match of the day but despite his efforts the final scoreline was 2-6 3-6 1-6 to Lithuania.

 

James Cluskey and Barry King faced Berankis / Grigelis in the doubles on Saturday afternoon but were unfortunate to suffer a 3-6 3-6 4-6 defeat to the Lithuanians.

 

The Irish team came back fighting on Sunday afternoon with both Niland and McGee achieving wins. Niland had a 6-0 6-2 win over Lukas Mugevicius and McGee defeated Dovydas Sakinis on a scoreline 6-2 6-3.

 

The final score for the weekend was 3-2 to Lithuania who will now face Slovenia in the next tie in September.
