Great Famine Silent Reflection 2010

Invitation to observe a moment of silent reflection on Sunday 16th May 2010 in memory of all those who suffered loss during the Great Famine

In May 2008, the Government decided to inaugurate an annual National Famine Commemoration Day in memory of all those who died and emigrated during the Great Famine. A National Famine Commemoration Committee was established to administrator this and to consider the appropriate arrangements for the commemoration.

The committee has agreed that Sunday 16th May this year will be National Famine Commemoration Day and that all public and sporting events will be invited to observe a minute of silence.

If your club is holding en event on this date, Tennis Ireland invite you to observe a minute of silent reflection before the proceedings begin on Sunday 16th May, in memory of all those who suffered loss during the Famine – loss of life, loss of family, loss of home and loss of country.
