Cluskey/O’Brien Advance in Bournemouth
After being knocked out in the first round of the singles, Colin O’Brien teamed up with fellow Irishman James Cluskey for doubles victory. The pair defeated the British duo of Neil Pauffley and Ben Pritchard in their first match, 1-6 7-5 [10-6]. In the second round the Irish team took on two more Brits, this time Richard Gabb and Ashley Hewitt. The Brits, who had knocked off the top-seeded team in their first match, were no match for the Irish, who were victorious 7-5 6-3. In the semifinals, Cluskey and O’Brien will take on the third seed, Australians Colin Ebelthite and Jarryd Maher.
Another Irishman, Daniel Glancy, and his teammate Lazare Kukhalashvili of Georgia, were knocked out in the first round by Ebelthite and Maher. The Australians easily defeated Glancy and Kukhalashvili 6-1 6-0.
Barry King also competed in the doubles, pairing up with Marcus Willis of Great Britain as the second seed. The pair defeated Ignacio Coll-Riudavets of Spain and Gilles De Sousa of France in a walk-over to advance to the second round. King and Willis put up a fight in the second round, but Adrien Puget and Gleb Sakharov of France won the match in three sets. The Frenchmen were victorious 7-6(3) 2-6 [10-4].
