Colin O’Brien, Barry King and Daniel Glancy all competed yesterday in the opening round of the Great Britain F6 Futures event. O’Brien faced off against the top seed, Eric Prodon of France, but the Frenchman was victorious, 7-6(1) 6-1. King and Glancy did not fare any better. King was defeated in three sets by Daniel Cox of Great Britain, 6-7(4) 6-0 6-3. Glancy, playing in the main draw after victory in the qualifying rounds, faced off against sixth-seeded Claudio Grassi of Italy. The Italian was victorious over Glancy, advancing to the second round after a 6-4 6-3 victory.
All three men remain in Bournemouth for the doubles competition. King pairs up with Willis of Great Britain as the second seed, playing Ignacio Coll-Riudavets of Spain and Gilles De Sousa of France. Glancy teams up with Lazare Kukhalashvili of Georgia, who trains with the Irish in Dublin. The pair will take on third-seeded Australians Colin Ebelthite and Jarryd Maher in their first match. Glancy pairs up with fellow Irishman James Cluskey, who was defeated in the final round of the qualifiers, to face the British duo Neil Pauffley and Ben Pritchard in the doubles.
