James Clusky, Daniel Glancy and John Morrissey are all competing in the qualifying draw of the ITF Futures event in Bournemouth, Great Britain. All three have made it to the third round and with one more victory each will earn a spot in the main draw.
This is only Morrissey’s second men’s ITF tournament. The 17-year-old began in fine fashion, defeating Ahmed El Menshawy of Great Britain 6-1 6-1 in the first round. He then took on seventh-seeded Lazare Kukhalashvili of Georgia, who trains with the Irish at the BNP Paribas National Tennis Academy at DCU. Morrissey was victorious, earning a 6-3 7-5 victory. In his final match of the qualifying round, Morrissey will face Fredrik Ask of Norway, the thirteenth seed.
Clusky, the tenth seed in the qualifiers, earned a first round bye before defeating Christopher Helliar of Great Britain, 7-5 4-6 6-3. He will face fourth-seeded Australian Jarryd Maher to determine who will advance to the main draw.
Glancy also earned a first round bye as the sixth seed. He defeated Glen Kuma-Mintah of Great Britain, 6-1 6-1, to advance to the third round. He will now face Chris Priddle of Great Britain in his final match of the qualifying draw.
