BNP Paribas Irish Fed Cup Team

 

Despite missing two players and a captain, Amy Bowtell and Julia Moriarty were able to earn an impressive 3-0 victory over Malta on the first day of the Fed Cup in Cairo, Egypt.

 

Moriarty defeated Kimberley Cassar, 6-4 7-5. Bowtell followed suit with a 6-3 2-6 6-3 victory over Elaine Genovese. The duo then paired up to hand Cassar and Genovese a 7-6 (7-1) 6-2 loss.

 

Moriarty and Bowtell will take on Morocco today in their second match of the round robin tournament. Captain Garry Cahill and player Niamh Coveney are meeting them in Cairo today after a week of delays due to flight disruptions. The fourth player, Lynsey McCullough, is also on her way and should arrive early Friday morning.
