BNP Paribas Fed Cup team members unable to travel to Cairo
Julia Moriarty and Amy Bowtell will now represent Ireland as a two person team at the BNP Paribas Fed Cup in Cairo as Lynsey McCullough and Niamh Coveney have been unable to travel due to the ash plume over Irish airspace prevented travel over the past few days. Team captain, Garry Cahill and assistant Conor Taylor have also been unable to travel to the event.
Julia Moriarty, player number one for Ireland, is the oldest of the group at 21, but a newcomer to the BNP Paribas Fed Cup. Born in Adelaide, Australia, the young dual-citizen is currently ranked 695th in the world and has been deemed eligible by the ITF to represent Ireland in this competition.
Ireland’s number two player is Amy Bowtell, the youngest member on the team at sixteen. Bowtell has been a highly successful member of the BNP Paribas National Tennis Academy Junior Squad since 2001, reaching the finals of the Ladies National Indoors event at Riverview at Christmas.
Ireland will face Malta today and results will be posted to https://www.tennisireland.ie/home/fed_cup_2010 as they come available.
