Grainne O’Neill reached the quarterfinals of week two of the AEGON Nottingham Junior ITF. After a first round victory over Helen Thorpe, 6-2 7-5, Grainne faced off against Caroline Kallberg, whom she also defeated, 6-2 6-1. In the first round, O’Neill had another strong victory, this time over Georgina Bastick of Great Britain, 6-2 6-4. Unfortunately, O’Neill’s success came to an end in the quarterfinals, where she suffered a defeat to Ruth Seaburn of Great Britain, 6-2 6-3.
In the girls’ doubles, Emily Madill was in competition last week with partner Kyria Dunford of Great Britain. The duo defeated Grace Dixon and Sophie Nelson of Great Britain in their first match on a scoreline of 7-5 6-3. In the second round, Sarah Beth and Amy Askew of Britain proved to be too much for Madill and Dunford, defeating them 7-6(4) 6-4.
Ciaran Fitzgerald also played in Nottingham last week. Teamed up with Lewis Burton of Great Britain as the top seed, Fitzgerald earned a first round bye. The duo was knocked out by Jordan Bull and Gavin Davison of Great Britain in the second round in a walkover.
