Play began yesterday in the main draws of boys’ and girls’ singles in Iteuil, France. Neil Chambers faced off against Joseph Guillin of France in the first round, but he was unfortunately defeated 6-3 6-2. Eoin McGovern has yet to play, receiving a bye in the first round as the ninth seed, but he will take on Roman Safiullin of Russia in the second round today. Chambers and McGovern are teaming up as the sixth seed in the doubles draw. The pair will face the French duo of Josephy Guillin and Alexandre Muller in the second round today after receiving a bye in the first.
In the girls’ singles, Julie Byrne and Aisling O’Riordan were both unfortunately knocked out in the first round. Byrne faced off against Alice Rame of France, who defeated her on a scoreline of 6-0 6-4. O’Riordan played Vinciane Remy in the opening round, but she was defeated by the French girl, 6-0 6-0. Byrne also competed in the doubles in France, teamed up with Monika van de Vondel of Belgium. The pair went up against Anna Brogan and Maia Lumsden of Great Britain in the first round. The Brits were victorious 6-1 6-4.
