Barry Defeats Morrissey to Win Boys’ Doubles

 
Sam Barry and Ben McLachlan of New Zealand defeated John Morrissey and Ben Wagland of Australia in the finals of the boys’ doubles’ competition at the Dunlop Japan Open Junior Championships. Barry and McLachlan reached the finals after a quarterfinal victory over Yoshihito Nishioka and Takashi Saito of Japan. Second seeded Barry/McLachlan defeated the Japanese pair 6-1 6-1. In the semifinals, Barry/McLachlan were victorious again, this time over the Japanese duo of Kazuma Kawachi and Soichiro Moritani, 6-4 7-5.
 
Morrissey and partner Ben Wagland were the top seeded team in the boys’ doubles, defeating Toma Kozakai of Japan and Andrew Whittington of Australia 6-4 6-3 in the quarterfinals. The pair advanced to the finals after a walkover in the semifinals over Jarryd Chaplin of Australia and Jeson Patrombon of the Philippines.
 
In the finals, the Irish boys faced off as the two top seeds, with Barry coming out on top. Barry and McLachlan defeated Morrissey and Wagland on a scoreline of 6-3 6-0. In March the tables were turned, as Morrissey and Wagland defeated Barry and McLachlan in the finals to win the 15th Sarawak Chief Minister’s Cup in Malaysia.
