Barry and Morrissey in Doubles Quarterfinals in Japan
Top seeded John Morrissey and Ben Wagland of Australia defeated the Japanese duo of Rikuto Furuta and Motoaki Kita in the second round of the boys’ doubles in Nagoya. After receiving a first round bye, Morrissey/Wagland delivered a 6-3 4-6 [11-9] defeat to the Japanese pair to advance to the quarterfinals. They will face Toma Kozakai of Japan and Andrew Whittington of Australia in the next round.
As the second seed, Sam Barry and Ben McLachlan also earned a bye in the first round before securing a second round victory. The pair defeated Yi-Lun Lin of Chinese Taipei and Yohei Ono of Japan on a scoreline of 5-7 7-5 [10-7]. Barry/McLachlan will take on the Japanese duo of Yoshihito Nishioka and Takashi Saito in the quarterfinals.
In the singles draw, Barry was unfortunately knocked out in the third round by Rikuto Furuta of Japan. Eighth seeded Barry was defeated 6-3 6-4.
