Julia Moriarty has advanced to the second round of the $10,000 Nanjing tournament in China. Moriarty, ranked 695th in the women’s circuit, defeated Thuy-Dung Nguyen of Vietnam 6-1 6-4 in the opening round. The seventh seed in the tournament, Moriarty will face off against Ya qi Deng of China in the second round of the singles’ competition.
In the doubles’ draw, Moriarty was partnered with Tegan Edwards of South Africa as the second seed in the tournament. The duo defeated Ofri Lankri of Israel and Ya Zhou of China on a scoreline of 7-5 6-4 in the first round. Unfortunately, they were knocked out in the quarterfinals by the Chinese pair of Wan-Ting Liu and Yi-Jing Zhao, who defeated them 6-1 6-0.
