Eighth seeded Sam Barry advances to the third round at the Dunlop Japan Open Junior Championships after a victory over Kazuma Kawachi of Japan. Barry moved to the second round after receiving a bye in the first. He defeated Kawachi on a scoreline of 6-2 6-1. Barry will play Rikuto Furuta of Japan in the third round in Nagoya.
John Morrissey was knocked out of the singles’ tournament in the second round by Jea Moon Lee of Korea. Despite entering the tournament as the top seed and earning a first round bye, Morrissey was defeated by Lee 6-3 6-4.
Morrissey and Barry both remain in the doubles’ draw in Nagoya. Morrissey and Ben Wagland of Australia make up the top seeded team, facing the Japanese duo of Rikuto Furuta and Motoaki Kita in the second round after a first round bye. Sam Barry and teammate Ben McLachlan of New Zealand enter the draw as the second seed. Barry and McLachlan were recently teamed up in the Mitsubishi-Lancer tournament in the Philippines, where the pair were finalists. The duo is set to play Yi-Lun Lin of Chinese Taipei and Yohei Ono of Japan in the second round.
