Malaysia: Morrissey/Wagland and Barry/McLachlan in doubles final
John Morrissey and Sam Barry travelled to Malaysia this week for the grade 1 Sarawak Chief Minister’s Cup 2010, which is taking place in Kuching.
In the doubles, both Sam Barry and John Morrissey have achieved a place in the finals.
Sam Barry and partner Ben McLachlan (NZL) defeated Burapharitta (THA) / Munshaw (IND) in the second round on a scoreline 6-4 6-1 and had a 5-7 7-5 [10-6] win over Neymatov (RUS) / Shipilov (UZB) in the quarterfinals. They defeated Averfalk (SWE) / Elias (GER) in the semifinals on a scoreline 6-3 7-6(6).
John Morrissey and Ben Wagland (AUS) had a 7-5 6-4 win over Patrombon (PHI) / Wunner (GER) in the second round and defeated Jalalov (UZB) / Rumyantsev (RUS) on a scoreline 7-6(5) 7-5 in the quarterfinals. They advanced to the finals after a 6-1 3-6 [10-5] win over American duo Krueger / Webb.
No. 2 seed John Morrissey advanced to the third round of the boys singles after a 6-2 6-3 win over Nuttanon Kadchapanan (THA) in the second round. He was unfortunate to suffer a 6-2 6-2 defeat to Andrew Whittington (AUS) in the third round.
No. 15 seed Sam Barry was defeated 4-6 7-5 6-2 in the second round by Campbell Johnson (USA).
Earlier this year, both Morrissey and Barry competed in the Australian Open Junior Championships in Melbourne.
