8th SFAX ITF Junior Tournament 2010: Amy Bowtell in doubles semi final
Amy Bowtell and Sam Barry are taking part in the 8th SFAX ITF Junior Tournament in Tunisia this week.
Bowtell is competing in the doubles event with Agata Baranska (POL). They had a 6-2 6-2 win over no. 3 seed duo Brown (GBR) / Seateun (FRA) in the first round and defeated Cichon (POL) / Walker (GBR) in the quarterfinal on a scoreline. Bowtell/Baranska will now face no. 1 seed duo Abbes (TUN) / Jabeur (TUN) in the semi finals.
Amy Bowtell faced Alexandra Walker (GBR) in the first round of the girls singles and was unfortunate not to proceed with a final scoreline 4-6 6-2 6-2.
Sixteen year old Bowtell recently achieved a place in the second round of the girls singles event at the grade 1 22nd Czech International Junior Indoor Championships and was a finalist in the ladies singles at the Babalot National Indoors in December.
Sam Barry was seeded no. 6 in the boys singles and started off the tournament well with a 2-6 6-2 6-1 win over Christian Plattes (GER) in the first round of the boys singles. In the second round he defeated Antonio Campo (ITA) on a scoreline 6-3 6-7(5) 6-3 but faced a tough challenge against no.1 seed Mate Zsiga (HUN) in the quarter final yesterday morning suffering a 6-3 4-6 6-2 to the Hungarian.
In the doubles, Barry is partnering his boys singles opponent Mate Zsiga (HUN). They had a 7-5 6-4 win over Ghorbel (TUN) / Plattes (GER) in the first round but were defeated 6-2 3-6 [10-8] by Hanzlik (CZE) / Lutkowski (POL) in the quarterfinal.
Eighteen year old Barry who is currently ranked 82 reached the second round of the boys singles and doubles at the Australian Open Juniors recently and the final of the boys doubles at the grade 1 Loy Lang International in Traralgon, Australia.
