Sorensen and Niland progress to second round of Australian Open Qualifiers
Louk Sorensen and Conor Niland both had victories earlier today at the Australian Open men’s singles qualifiers in Melbourne.
Louk Sorensen defeated Benjamin Balleret of Monaco on a scoreline 7-6(6) 6-3. Sorsensen also defeated Balleret last week 6-0 2-6 6-2 in the qualifying stage of the men’s singles at the Chennai Open in India and went on to achieve a place in the main draw of the tournament. He will play Michael Yani (USA) in the second round.
Niland had a 6-4 6-4 win over Finland’s Henri Kontinen. Niland had a 6-3 6-1 win over Kontinen in the first round of the mens singles main draw at the Turkey F8 Futures in September. Niland will face Jesse Witten (USA) who has a ranking of 163 in the second round.
