Malaysia F6 Futures 2009: McGee in Singles Semis and O’Brien in Doubles Semis
O’Brien, King and McGee have stayed in Malaysia for a third week to compete in the Malaysia F6 Futures.
Mens Singles
Colin O’ Brien advanced to the quarterfinals of the mens singles after defeating Jaan-Frederik Brunken (GER) on a scoreline 6-1 2-0 (Retired) in the second round of the mens singles. James McGee defeated Sandro Ehrat (SUI) 6-4 6-2 in the second round and this resulted in both Irish players facing each other in the quarterfinals. McGee progressed to the semi finals after having a 5-7 6-4 6-4 win over O’Brien and will now play Jesse Huta Galung (NED).
Barry King also competed in the mens singles but was defeated by Kittiphong Wachiramanowong (THA) in the first round on a scoreline 7-5 6-3.
Mens Doubles
Colin O’Brien and Rohan Gajjar (IND) achieved a place in the semi final after defeating Siributwong (THA) / Siriluethaiwattana (THA) in the quarterfinals on a scoreline 3-6 6-2 [10-4]. They played Dutch duo Huta Galung / Niesten in the semi finals but lost 6-2 6-2.
O’Brien and Gajjar reached the finals of the mens doubles last weekend at the Malaysia F5 Futures but lost 4-6 3-6 to Betau (BLR) / Zhyrmont (BLR).
Barry King and partner Pavic (CRO) were defeated in the first round of the mens doubles by Koreans Cho and Kim on a scoreline 6-7(5) 7-6(4) [10-6].
