Niland in Mens Singles Finals at F27 Futures USA
Conor Niland reached the finals of the men’s singles at the F27 Futures 2009 Birmingham, USA this weekend. Niland achieved his place in the finals by defeating Tim Bradshaw (GBR) in the first round of the main draw, Denis Kudla (USA) in the second round, Erling Tveit (NOR) in the quarterfinals and had a 7-6(2) 6-4 win over Michael Venus (USA) in the semi finals. He was defeated by James Lemke of Australia in the final of the mens singles on a scoreline 4-6 6-2 7-5. Niland recently reached the final of the men’s singles at the France F18 Futures.
Michael Hayes also competed in this tournament and reached the third round of the mens qualifiers but was defeated 7-6(5) 6-3 by Saad Benkirane (MAR). He achieved his place in the third round by defeating Justin Kirstein (RSA) 6-3 6-4 and Davis Mark Dawson (USA) 7-6(5) 6-3. Twenty two year old Hayes competed in both the singles (qualifers) and doubles at the Ireland F2 Futures in June of this year.
