Great Britain F16 Futures: McGee & King in Doubles Semi Finals

Three Irish players are competing this week in the Great Britain F16 Futures at Cardiff Health & Rackets Club in Wales.

 

Men’s Singles
James McGee had a 6-1 6-2 win over Frederik Sletting-Johnsen (NOR) in the second round of the men’s singles. He will now play Marcus Willis (GBR) in the quarterfinals this morning. McGee is currently ranked 543 and came through the qualifiers stage before achieving his place in the main draw.
 
Daniel Evans defeated Barry King 7-5 6-3 in the second round of the men’s singles yesterday. King overcame Burnham Arlidge (GBR) on a scoreline 6-4 6-4 in the first round of the men’s singles. King who is currently ranked 622 is also taking part in the men’s doubles event partnering with James McGee.
 
Conor Niland also competed in the men’s singles earlier in the week but retired in the first round.

Men’s Doubles
McGee and King had a 6-2 6-2 win over Andrew Fitzpatrick (GBR) and Dominic Ross-Hurst (GBR) in the quarterfinals of the men’s doubles yesterday. They will now play Daniel Evans (GBR) and Joshua Milton (GBR) in the semi finals. McGee and King will be hoping to replicate their result from last week where they defeated the British duo in the first round of the doubles event at Great Britain F15 Futures 2009 on a scoreline 1-6 6-4 [10-5].

The US$15,000 Futures event will continue throughout the week with the finals taking place on Sunday 1st November.
