Tuesdays Results from Great Britain F16 Futures
Three Irish players were competing yesterday in the Great Britain F16 Futures at Cardiff Health & Rackets Club in Wales.
Barry King defeated Burnham Arlidge (GBR) 6-4 6-4 and will now play Daniel Evans (GBR) this morning in the second round of the men’s singles. King will be hoping for a win over Evans after losing to Evans on a scoreline 2-6 4-6 last week in the second round of Great Britain F15 Futures 2009 in Scotland. King who is currently ranked 622 is also taking part in the men’s doubles event partnering with James McGee.
James McGee will now play Frederik Sletting-Johnsen (NOR) in the second round of the men’s singles after Conor Niland retired following their first round game. McGee will be eager to replicate the 6-3 6-2 win he had over the Norwegian at the Dublin Challenger in June 2008.
McGee and King will play Andrew Fitzpatrick (GBR) / Dominic Ross-Hurst (GBR) in the quarterfinals of the men’s doubles later on today. McGee and King have been seeded no. 3 in the doubles event. The Irish duo reached the quarterfinals of the men’s doubles at the Great Britain F15 Futures 2009 last week and the semi finals of the Italy F30 Futures 2009 in September.
The US$15,000 Futures event will continue throughout the week with the finals taking place on Sunday 1st November.
